A Saarland Family Chain With About 90 Stores
Globus Baumarkt is a family-owned hardware chain from Saarland that has been open since the 1980s. It runs around 90 stores in Germany and Luxembourg, employs more than 9,000 people, and turns over close to two billion euros a year. The online shop mirrors the stores: garden, tools, building supplies, bath, heating, and paint. It ships across Germany and to Austria, Belgium, and the Netherlands, so the site reaches further than the store network does. What makes it different from a pure online seller is the link back to the store. You can reserve online, pick up within the hour, and return in person.
What Globus Baumarkt Sells
| Category | Typical Items |
|---|---|
| Garden and leisure | Plants, furniture, grills, sheds, pools |
| Tools and hardware | Power tools, hand tools, fixings, ladders |
| Building | Timber, insulation, plaster, tiles |
| Bath and heating | Fittings, radiators, water heaters |
| Paint and wallpaper | Interior and exterior paint, wallpaper, brushes |
| Electrical | Cable, lighting, smart home |
The range is what you would expect from a full-line hardware store. Own-brand items sit next to Bosch, Makita, Gardena, and the usual names, and seasonal stock changes with the calendar. Spring brings plants and patio furniture, autumn brings insulation and heating, and both are cheaper if you buy early rather than in the peak week.
Reserve Online, Pick Up at Globus Baumarkt
This is the feature to use. Each product page has an "Abholung im Markt" tab that shows stock at your chosen store. If your store is out, click through to see which nearby stores have it.
| Detail | What to Expect |
|---|---|
| Ready for pickup | One hour after reserving |
| Held for | Up to seven days at the information desk |
| Plants | Must be collected within 24 hours |
| Cost | Free |
For a Saturday project, this beats delivery every time. Reserve on Friday evening, collect on the way to the job, and you skip both the shipping fee and the wait. Reservations are also a quiet way to lock stock on a sale item before it sells out.
Delivery Costs and Times
| Shipping Type | Germany | Austria, Belgium, Netherlands |
|---|---|---|
| Standard parcel | 4.99 euros | 9.99 euros |
| Bulky goods | 9.99 euros | 19.99 euros |
| Island surcharge | 70 euros on certain islands | Not applicable |
Parcels go by courier, and bulky or pallet goods go by freight, which takes longer and may need a delivery appointment. Payment options include the usual cards, PayPal, and invoice for registered customers. One rule to know: you cannot switch between delivery and pickup after ordering. The order has to be cancelled and placed again. There is no assembly or installation service, so plan for that separately if you are buying a shed or a water heater. Delivery times for parcels are typically a few working days; freight can take a week or more depending on the item.
The Globus Baumarkt Guarantees
Four promises set it apart from many rivals.
- Best price guarantee: find the same item cheaper elsewhere and the difference is refunded, with no stated time limit
- 7-year guarantee: on selected own-brand tools and products
- Plant guarantee: hardy garden plants that fail are replaced
- Exchange guarantee: straightforward exchanges on unused goods
The best price guarantee is the most useful, but its wording is loose. Whether online prices count as a comparison is not clearly stated, so bring a printed offer and ask at the desk. The 7-year guarantee applies to marked products only, so look for the label on the shelf or product page.
Globus Baumarkt vs. OBI vs. Bauhaus
| Parameter | Globus Baumarkt | OBI | Bauhaus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stores | About 90 | 350 plus | 150 plus |

Globus has fewer stores, so it only wins if one is near you. Where it is, the guarantees and the satisfaction scores tip the balance. Globus also runs a bonus card that collects points on purchases, which adds a small saving for regular shoppers.

Final Verdict
Globus Baumarkt is at its best as a hybrid. Use the site to plan, check stock, and reserve, then collect in store for free. The guarantees add real value, especially the open-ended price promise. If your nearest store is far away, the online shop alone is fine but not special. If one is close, it is one of the better hardware options in Germany.
