Zinio Unlimited vs Apple News+ vs PressReader
Three ways to read lots of magazines for one monthly price.
| What You Get | Zinio Unlimited | Apple News+ | PressReader Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly price | $9.99 | $12.99 | $29.99 |
| Free trial | First month | 1 month (3 with a new eligible Apple device) | 7 days |
| Titles | 5,000+ magazines | 500+ publications | 7,000+ in all. Newspapers too, not just magazines |
| Devices | 5 devices max | Share with up to 6 people | 5 on one account |
These were the prices on October 21. Could be different by the time you read this. The short version? Zinio Unlimited costs the least per month of the three. For 5,000-plus magazines. That is under ten dollars.
- Pick Zinio Unlimited if magazines are your thing. Newspapers, not so much. And $9.99 beats $12.99 and $29.99.
- Tip: put a note on your phone for day 25. Decide then.
What Reading on Zinio Is Like
- Any device. Your phone works. So does the tablet on the couch or a laptop.
- Offline. Download issues and read without Wi-Fi.
- Small print? Zoom in. Bump the font size. Or let the app read it out loud with text-to-speech.
- Topics. 25 interest categories.
- Many languages. Over 30 on the newsstand.
- Worldwide. 150+ countries on Zinio's list.
Who runs it? Zinio LLC. Its head office is in Barcelona, with a US office in New York. It is part of Naviga. App users seem happy. The Zinio newsstand app shows 4.6 stars from about 16,000 ratings on the US App Store. The Unlimited app shows 4.8.
Make the Most of the Free Month
Thirty days go by fast. A plan helps.
- Week 1. Open the magazines you would buy anyway. See if they are in Unlimited.
- Week 2. Try one new topic. Cooking. Cars. Travel. Something you never buy at the store.
- Before a trip. Download a stack of issues for the plane.
- Day 25. Count how many magazines you opened. More than two? $9.99 is likely worth it.
- Not for you? Cancel before the month ends. No charge.
Giving Zinio as a Gift
Zinio does not sell gift cards. There are still two ways.
- Their email, your card. Make an account in the other person's email and buy the subscription there.
- Ask support. Buy it on your account. Then ask Zinio support to move it.
Like giving feedback? Zinio runs a research panel. Join, and they send a thank-you. Sometimes a magazine subscription, sometimes a promo code.
